Historically welding procedures and welder performance testing were solely based upon the results of mechanical testing of the submitted mock weld coupons. Today, the regulatory inspection has been expanded to encompass testing required not only for
ASME testing (ASME IX, ASME VIII), CSA W47.1, CSA W47.2, AWS D1.1, AWS D1.2, AWS D1.6,
PED, also by newer codes of construction including:
- ASME Section III Subsections NB, NC, ND, NF
- Oil Field Corporate Specifications for Shell, Suncor, ExxonMobile, and Syncrude
- Offshore Corporate Specifications for Hibernia, Terra Nova, White Rose, Norsok, and DNV-0S-C401
- European welding code as governed by the PED (Pressure Equipment Directive) (97/23/EC)
Each of these standards has influenced the way industry performs qualifications and new testing programs have been developed by CMTL to keep pace.
The qualification of weld procedures, equipment, and personnel now requires the services of all departments within CMTL.
